What is Pilates?

Pilates is a holistic approach to whole body fitness. We focus on building a strong, healthy core and structural muscles through fluid movements.

We emphasize breathing, mindfulness, and slow controlled movements to create a challenging yet low impact exercise routine.

German-born Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) was born into his body with a weak constitution and sought to create a system of fitness that involved strengthening the body through focused muscular engagement.  He tapped into a vital response of boosting the immune system and energetic alignment that creates ease and resilience in daily activities. 

Joseph Pilates said, “Pilates will develop the body uniformly, correct wrong postures, restore physical vitality, invigorate the individual, and elevate the spirit.”

Ashby applies her somatic approach, teaching her clients how to listen and respond to feedback (internal & environmental), which builds crucial awareness for health, consciousness and longevity.

Classes

Mat classes are available to begin with an instructor. Once a client has learned the Foundational Movement Principles, we can move to the apparatus.
